Living Piece: A Canvas of Human Connection

We are all born as blank canvases, untouched by the world, waiting to be shaped by the people we meet and the experiences we gather. Living Peace is an art project that embodies this idea—an exploration of human connection through a single canvas marked by strangers from all walks of life.

During a journey across the U.S., I invited people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds to make a simple scribble on a blank canvas. Each mark, though small on its own, became part of a greater whole. With no control over what was added, I embraced the randomness, just as we cannot predict who will leave an imprint on our lives.

The scribbles were color-coded by location, representing the different places and communities that contributed to the piece. Over time, new marks changed what was originally seen, much like how relationships and experiences reshape our perspectives. In the end, I used only these collected marks to complete the painting—just as our lives are shaped by the people we encounter, whether briefly or profoundly.

Living Piece is a reflection of our shared humanity. It is a reminder that every person we meet, no matter how fleeting the interaction, leaves a mark on us. Some marks are bold, others subtle, but together, they create the story of who we are.
